Campus Ministry News
We have enjoyed a great beginning to our school year at SJB. The grade eights are busy preparing for camp, which will take place next week, September 11 and 12, at Camp Squeah. This is always a great event where the grade 8’s get to know each other.
Our Archdiocesan theme for the year is “Care for Everyone in Our Common Home,” and we will be making every effort to keep that theme in mind as we plan events. Our first school mass will occur on Thursday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. in St. James Church. We hope to have many priests from our deanery here. This mass, which includes commissioning the staff as teachers of faith, is always a highlight for September. It really brings home both the privilege and the responsibility that it is to be a teacher in a Catholic school. Following Mass, the school will host a lunch for the priests.
Campus Ministry is embodied in all areas of school life. Morning chapel occurs every day; everybody is welcome to come and say a prayer before beginning our day. The choir and Sacristan team are two opportunities for students to serve in our faith community. Each Thursday Father Ajin, our chaplain, is in attendance here at the school and he will be celebrating masses as well as visiting individual classes.
Saint John Brebeuf’s feast day, which is on Tuesday, Sept. 26, will be commemorated with prayers. Our last official event planned for September is a Girls’ Faith Evening. All grade 8 girls are encouraged to watch for news about this event, which is facilitated by the grade 12 girls in our school. The evening is titled “Surviving and even Thriving in High School” and has been a great success in the past. We hope to see all grade 8 girls there!!
The team would like to wish each of you a blessed school year; we are looking forward to working with your children this year.
