Welcome to Chemistry 11! Sept. 5, 2017
My name is Anne Durante and it is my great pleasure to be teaching the senior Chemistry classes at St. John Brebeuf. I am returning to SJB to teach Chemistry after being away for 17 years while I raised my family and spent some time teaching at the elementary level. In this course I hope to inform and inspire your children with an appreciation of chemistry and it’s impact upon our world. I am attaching the course outline on this page, and I will be using this website for any updates or information you need to know. I look forward to getting to know you and your children! Please feel free to contact me at email@example.com or by calling the school.

The homework is to finish the Lewis diagrams on the last page of the chemical bonding worksheets. I am uploading the worksheets here in case you forgot them at school.
Friday, October 6, 2017
The homework is to review for the test on Wednesday. Come to class on Tuesday with any questions you have about any of the topics on the test. I have uploaded answer keys for the atomic mass calculations and the naming/finding formulas (keep scrolling in the link!) to this page.
Thursday, October 5, 2017
The homework is from the review handout (on naming and isotopes).
Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017
There will be a quiz this coming Thursday on precision/accuracy, percentage error/ absolute error, significant figures and scientific notation.
Friday, Sept. 15, 2017
I have hopefully succeeded in uploading the past 2 powerpoints onto this page. The homework this weekend is to complete the diagram of the types of mixtures (homogeneous and heterogeneous) along with the classification of solutions, colloids and suspensions. Include examples!!
Monday, Sept. 18, 2017
There will be a quiz on unit conversion this Wednesday. It will be very similar to the review handed out. We will take up the review in class tomorrow so make sure you get it done for homework! I have included the link to the review.
Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017
Good news! I’ve decided to postpone the quiz on unit conversions until Monday to allow the students a few more days of practice. Tonight’s question are pg. 50 1-3 and pg. 51 1-3.
Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017
Today we learned about different separation of matter techniques and the properties used within them. The homework is to decide which property is used in each separation technique on the handout I provided. Reminder of the quiz on Monday!
Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017
For those who were away today, we reviewed the naming of ionic/covalent compounds. Please go over the powerpoint that will be uploaded tomorrow.
Friday, Sept. 22, 2017
Today we practiced naming covalent compounds. I have assigned some more unit conversion practice to help you prepare for Monday’s quiz (pg. 57 10, 11, 13) and naming practice pg 105 1-4. The powerpoint has now been loaded to this page.
Monday, Sept. 25, 2017
Today we continued practicing the naming of chemical compounds – both ionic and molecular. The homework is pg. 105 5,7, 9 and 10.
Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017
Today in class we introduced Atomic Theory. The homework is to do corrections for yesterday’s quiz on unit conversion, as well as pg. 248 1-4.
Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017
Today we were introduced to electron configurations. The homework is to write the electron configurations for the following elements: N, F, Be, O, B, S
Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017
Today we continued with our practice of writing electron configurations. Tomorrow we will work in class on the “Linking the Giants” mini-research project. This will be due Monday. Remember you only need to include 10 scientists on your timeline!
Friday, Sept. 29, 2017
The mini research project is due on Monday. I have now uploaded the power point on atomic theory. Have a great weekend!
Monday, Oct. 2, 2017
The homework for today is pg. 298 #12. Remember to hand in your completed mini research assignment with Results and Discussion questions 1 and 2 included.
Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017
There is no homework for tonight but I am posting the powerpoint we finished today (on the Periodic Table).
Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017
