Corrupt politician – Dodge the Question
Choose a student to be a political candidate. Choose another student to play a hard-hitting journalist. The journalist will ask the candidate a question that accuses them of wrong-doing.

A question may involve accusations of:

  • Accepting a bribe
  • Leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury
  • Public intoxication
  • Protecting a criminal in return for receiving campaign funding
  • Plus ten more suggestions!

Candidates must do anything BUT answer the question. (There are several examples of how to dodge questions also included in this tutorial.)

PROJECT 1: Filming 3 different emotions

You are to capture (on the phone or camera, or camcorder) 3 different occasions where you will exhibit your emotions, for instance joy, sadness, satisfaction, discouragement, etc. Each one will have all the elements of dramatic structure –  Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action and Resolution. Each emotion/footage will be around 60 secs long. We will project those videos in class.

PROJECT 2: Script Writing and Acting

Scene Write

Your assignment is to create an original script that can be acted out. Must be 5 minutes in length.

The scene must contain a minimum of 3 characters and one must be a stock character.

Part Two (in class):

Your assignment is to act out the scene assigned to you. You must make the characters come to life as they are described. Do not change any characters in the scene. The scene does not have to memorized but you cannot just stare at the script the whole time while on stage. You will borrow your classmates to help you act it out, as there are 3 other characters besides you. You will have time next week in class to familiarize yourselves with the scripts. However, the scripts should be ready to go on Tuesday, Feb 14.
